The project fosters resilience, efficent water use and long-terme stewarship of island lanscapes.
Focus
Med H2 – Mediterranean Heritage of Water project focuses on preserving both the tangible and intangible water heritage of Mediterranean islands.
The tangible heritage includes physical structures such as cisterns, wells, terraces, and irrigation systems evidence of centuries of technical ingenuity in coping with water scarcity.
The intangible heritage refers to the knowledge, traditions, and collective practices surrounding water use such as community management, rituals, and shared values of respect and solidarity toward nature.
Today, this dual heritage is threatened by climate change, mass tourism, and social change. Med H2 works to revive and promote this material and immaterial legacy through European cooperation, education, and local pilot projects, highlighting the Mediterranean culture of frugality, respect, and resilience.
